Porto Airport to the city centre: metro, taxi, Uber or transfer

Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is about 17 km from central Porto. There are five ways to cover it, and the best one depends on how many of you there are, your luggage and when you land.

The metro is cheapest if you travel alone and light. For two or more people, with suitcases or a late arrival, a private transfer at a fixed price usually makes more sense.

Each option in detail

Metro

Line E (purple) runs from the airport to Trindade in the city centre, where it meets the other lines. You need a rechargeable Andante Azul card (€0.60) loaded with a Z4 ticket (€2.30 per trip), sold at the station machines. Trains run every 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the time and day.

Bus

STCP buses link the airport and the centre with the same Andante ticket. It is the slowest option, with the most stops, and there are fewer services at night.

Taxi

There is a taxi rank outside arrivals. Fares are metered, plus tolls and a supplement for items larger than 55 × 35 × 20 cm. No booking needed.

Uber, Bolt

You order in the app and meet the car at the pick-up point the app shows. Prices rise with demand — when several flights land together they can exceed a taxi.

Private transfer

Your driver waits at arrivals with a sign bearing your name and tracks your flight: if you land late, the pick-up moves with it, with one hour of waiting included. The price is per vehicle, not per person, and fixed when you book.

When a private transfer is worth it

In a group the per-vehicle price is shared: four people on the metro pay €9.20 plus the cards, then walk the last stretch with their bags. A transfer takes them to the door.

It pays off most when:

  • two or more of you travel, or with children (child seats on request);
  • you have large suitcases, a pushchair, or golf or surf gear;
  • your flight lands late, when the metro runs less often;
  • you are not going to the centre: Gaia, Matosinhos, Maia, or further to the Douro or Lisbon.
